One of the most important goals of the DIVEDCO was to educate the rural, undereducated population of Puerto Rico, and one of their key methods of doing this was by distributing thousands of copies of free books like this one to as many people as possible. The authors of this booklet underscore the importance, indeed the necessity, of reading and becoming better informed as Puerto Rico entered the second half of the 20th century. As they put it: “sharing a book is as important as sharing a piece of bread with your neighbor”
