This collaboration among members of the DIVEDCO, the Committee for Nutrition at the University of Puerto Rico, and the Department of Health contains important information about how to maintain good physical and mental health through the consumption of a balanced diet.  The authors stress that the typical Puerto Rican diet consists of a limited variety of foodstuffs – such as rice, beans, tubers, codfish, and lard – and they point out that there are many other types of foods that should be added to the daily diet including milk, fresh meat and eggs, green vegetables and fresh, local fruit.
